When drivers act carelessly or irresponsibly, it can have serious consequences for those around them. Whether they are overtired, driving while intoxicated or simply distracted for a moment, their mistakes can and often do cost lives. In New York, a young woman has been arrested following a car accident involving a police vehicle.

The incident occurred one Saturday morning in the early hours. The police vehicle was stationary and officers were talking to civilians on the roadside. The accident happened when a car driven by a 21-year-old woman allegedly crashed into the police vehicle, causing it in turn to strike two police officers, knocking them off their feet. The woman’s car is believed to have rolled over during the incident.

The driver, along with one of the officers, was treated and subsequently released. The other officer was believed to have suffered internal injuries and was consequently hospitalized. The driver was arrested and now faces criminal charges, including vehicular assault and aggravated driving while intoxicated.

It is fortunate in this incident that the injuries caused were not any more severe. Even so, the hospitalized officer may have a long recovery ahead. This could result in expensive medical bills and lost wages due to time off work. Depending on the severity of the injuries, the officer may even be in need of long-term care.

If you find yourself in this situation, you may want to consider making a compensation claim. An attorney can talk you through your options and may be able to help you pursue the settlement you deserve. When someone else’s negligence affects your well-being and happiness, it is important to stand up to them so the situation can be resolved.
