ACTOS is a pioglitazone narcotic used to control blood sugar levels in people suffering from type 2 diabetes, not dependent on insulin for treatment.

What is a black box warning?
The FDA frequently requires drug manufacturers to print a special warning on the side of packages, or include a special slip of paper with the medication, warning the consumer that medical studies have shown that the drug carries significant risk of dangerous side effects. It is the strongest warning the FDA requires of manufacturers. The warning derives its name from the heavy black line highlighting the location on the package.
