As most drivers in New York know, trucks are a common sight on the busy roads of the state. As such, they can often become involved in road accidents, with devastating consequences. The size and weight of these vehicles can dramatically increase the resultant damage when such an incident occurs. Furthermore, if they are carrying a hazardous load at the time of the crash, this too can contribute to the harm caused.
In New York, a Basin Haulage employee was killed in a tragic accident involving a garbage truck that he was operating. According to reports, the 55-year-old man was found dead on the street early one morning. What appears to have happened is that he left the truck in order to collect some trash. However, the truck began to roll away while he was doing so.
Police have commented that the victim attempted to catch the truck, running after it and climbing onto the passenger-side step. Tragically, a utility pole was clipped by the truck, crushing the man to death. The incident has not been deemed suspicious, and the vehicle has been released to its owners.
Sadly, accidents of this nature are not uncommon in New York. All too often truck malfunctions lead to extensive injuries and widespread fatalities, not only of those operating them, but anyone else who happens to be sharing the road at the time.
If you have been involved in a truck accident, you may find the advice of an attorney helpful. He or she can advise you on the best course of action to take and might be able to assist you if you decide to take legal action against the truck company or make a claim for compensation.
