Gertrude Schnabel, an 84-year-old woman was hit by an MTA bus in Forest Hills Queens and has suffered devastating injuries including a leg amputation.
Ms Schnabel was crossing the street at Queens Boulevard when she was hit by an MTA Q64 bus that was making a right turn from 108th Street to Queens Boulevard. She was thereafter taken to Bellevue Hospital with serious foot and ankle injuries. Ms. Schnabel has had two surgeries so far and has had a partial left leg amputation and screws inserted in her right ankle to repair it.
Many tragic accidents have happened on Queens Boulevard and the 7 mile stretch of road has been nicknamed the “Boulevard of Death.” More than 70 Pedestrians have been killed from 1993 to 2001 according to DOT statistics.
