Supporting You Throughout Your Zantac Claim

Supporting You Throughout Your Zantac Claim

It is getting difficult to avoid cancer-causing drugs.

We expect manufacturers to properly vet their products before releasing them to the public. One drug that has been found to be contaminated with a carcinogen is Zantac.

The Food and Drug Administration has determined that Zantac and its generic versions, which are available by prescription or over the counter, are contaminated with N-nitrosodimethylamine (commonly called NDMA). That substance could cause several cancers. Our defective products attorneys at Rosenbaum & Rosenbaum, P.C., are prepared to support you if you have a Zantac contamination claim.

NDMA Was Developed As A Rocket Fuel Synthesizer

Zantac is used to relieve heartburn and treat and prevent stomach and intestine ulcers. It has ranitidine, which can be contaminated with NDMA, a chemical that was developed to synthesize rocket fuel. The highly toxic substance has been proven to cause cancer in animals and the FDA has classified it as a “probable human carcinogen.”

Studies on humans are limited. It is believed that the NDMA in Zantac does not pose any immediate health risk. However, the Zantac contaminant is also in other foods and water. Canada has asked all Zantac manufacturers to stop distribution and it has been recalled in France. In the U.S., major drugstore chains are pulling it from shelves.

Zantac and its generic versions could cause a variety of cancers, including:

  • Bladder
  • Colorectal
  • Esophageal
  • Intestinal
  • Kidney
  • Liver
  • Ovarian
  • Pancreatic
  • Stomach
  • Testicular
  • Uterine

Drugs Should Not Cause More Pain And Suffering

The benefits of using medicines should outweigh health risks. Drug manufacturers should know if their drugs are contaminated and if they could cause cancer before they are released.

Short-term exposure to Zantac could also cause liver damage; skin rashes; hair loss; increased risks of pneumonia; jaundice; and an irregular heartbeat.
