It is no secret that a brain injury can turn your life upside-down. These injuries can be so varied that it is difficult to know what to expect or how best to treat them. The sooner the injury is identified, the better, as this gives doctors a better chance of beginning a treatment that may allow the patient to recover some of their lost functionality. Unfortunately, many brain injuries are life-changing, leaving the victims facing a lifetime relying on personal care.
In one such case, a New York crash had devastating consequences, leaving one dead and two in need of medical attention. The accident occurred when the driver’s vehicle collided with a DOT truck. According to reports, he was driving significantly over the speed limit at the time and later pleaded guilty to having been intoxicated behind the wheel.
One of his passengers was killed in the crash, while the other suffered serious injuries, including paralysis, memory loss and a traumatic brain injury. It is not known how severe the TBI was, but the extent of such injuries can sometimes take months to become apparent. It is possible that these injuries could affect him for the rest of his life.
If you or a loved one have suffered a brain injury in a road accident or anywhere else, the first thing to do is seek immediate medical attention. Once you condition has been assessed, you might also benefit from the advice of an attorney. He or she may be able to help you secure and insurance payout or even assist you if you decide to claim compensation for your injuries.
