Air Bag Recalls

Air Bag Recalls

When the air bag was first conceived in the 1950s, it took decades before the public supported the idea.

Now, most people wouldn’t fathom buying a vehicle without air bags. We rely on air bags to protect us in car accidents, especially head-on collisions.

But what happens when the products we rely on to keep us safe don’t work?

If you were involved in a car accident and your air bags failed to deploy, it’s important to understand your rights — especially if your vehicle had a defective air bag or other unsafe automobile parts.

At Rosenbaum & Rosenbaum, P.C., we fight aggressively to protect individuals throughout New York City who suffered serious or catastrophic injuries because of the negligence of another party. We can educate you about your rights following a car accident involving a defective air bag and help ensure you receive the compensation you need and deserve.

Was Your Vehicle Affected by the Takata/GM Air Bag Recall?

More than 7 million vehicles may be affected by the recent Takata and GM air bag recall. The defect involves a defective inflator and propellant devices. Rather than protecting vehicle occupants during a crash, the defective air bags shoot metal fragments into the vehicles’ occupants.

When the recall was first announced in April 2013, it seemed as though only six makes were affected. However, in June 2014, Takata admitted that it had no idea which cars used the defective inflators or what was causing the defect. Another major recall was announced in October 2014, and the list of affected vehicles got even larger. The vehicles currently affected by the air bag recall include:

  • Acura CL, TL, MDX and RL
  • BWM 3 Series sedan and wagon; 3 Series coupe and convertible; M3 coupe and convertible
