Losing a loved one is never easy, especially when their death is sudden and unexpected. All too often, lives are ended as the result of another person’s negligence, carelessness or even malice. These tragic incidents leave families struggling to understand how or why such a thing could have happened and wondering how to move forward.

Such was the case for the family of a 23-year-old woman who disappeared in May 2010 on Long Island. The young woman, who had hopes to become an actress, had been working as an escort at the time of her disappearance. She was known to often send gifts and money to her family in upstate New York.

Her remains were not found until December 2011, but it was believed her death may have been linked to that of four other women who had also been working as escorts. Although the exact circumstances of her death are unknown, it has been suggested that she may have been given a drug on the night of her disappearance that ultimately resulted in her death.

The man alleged to have given her the drug was a doctor who now faces a wrongful death lawsuit filed by an attorney for the victim’s family. As yet, no traces of drugs have been found in the young woman’s remains, but a more thorough investigation is expected to be carried out.

An attorney can be invaluable in any such case as he or she can approach the facts objectively and may be able to help you if you decide to file a claim against any responsible parties. It can be hard to remain calm and collected when handling matters relating to your loved one’s death. However, an attorney may be able to provide the advice and support you need.
