Two separate bus accidents leave 12 children injured and one dead

When parents in New York put their children on the school bus they expect that they will safely arrive at school. Sadly, that is not always the case. Officials are investigating two recent bus accidents that happened less than a week apart.

The bus accidents happened in nearby New Jersey. The most recent accident occurred on Feb. 21. Two vehicles, a truck and a school bus were involved. A motorist and seven of the children aboard the bus were taken to the hospital after the accident. Fortunately, it appears that no one was seriously injured.

The same can't be said for the accident that happened just days before on Feb. 16 when a dump truck and a school bus collided. A set of 11-year-old triplets was injured in the crash. One of them died and the other two remain hospitalized. An 11-year-old boy was also injured and remains in critical condition.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the accident, though it appears that both the driver of the dump truck and the driver of the school bus were in good standing. The bus involved in the accident was a 2012 model and had been inspected just six months ago. Authorities are waiting for the results of the toxicology tests to determine if either driver was impaired at the time of the accident.

The families of those who were injured or killed in the two accidents may be eligible to collect compensation if it is determined that one or more drivers were negligent. When someone drives recklessly and causes harm to others they should be held responsible.
