There is no easy way to deal with death. Through the grieving process, individuals will face some of the most difficult and painful days of their lives. When a person's negligent or careless act causes the death of a loved one, friends and family tend to be unforgiving.
Several families in New York are mourning, as a recent fatal accident on the Saw Mill River Parkway took the lives of two individuals.
According to reports, a Mercedes-Benz was out-of-control when it crashed into a Honda Civic. The Mercedes, which was traveling at high rates of speed, struck a center divider. According to police, it then flipped a number of times.
The individuals in the Mercedes did not fare well, as two were killed and three were seriously injured. The front seat passenger was thrown out of the vehicle through the sunroof; he went into cardiac arrest while still on the scene and later died in the hospital. A woman in the back seat was ejected from the car and also died after receiving care from the hospital.
The driver and two other back seat passengers were all seriously injured. According to the deputy chief of the fire department, one was in very critical condition, while the other two were in serious condition.
The assistant fire chief recalled that the accident was "really bad." He stated that the Mercedes had to have been going very fast, as there was a long distance from where the accident started to where the vehicle actually stopped.
In a case like this, family and friends of the deceased will want to find justice for the death of their loved one. While no amount of money will fully compensate for such a tragic loss, a wrongful death claim or lawsuit is about making sure the responsible parties are held accountable for the harm they have caused. In this way, the family might be able to feel a sense of closure, that there is at least some sort of chance they will see justice for the loved one they lost.
